Driving Age in Germany 2025 - License Requirements

Getting a German License

Requirements

  1. First aid course (9 hours)
  2. Eye test
  3. Theory lessons (14 ร— 90 minutes)
  4. Practical lessons (minimum 12 special drives)
  5. Pass theory test (30 questions)
  6. Pass practical driving test

Probationary Period

  • 2 years for new drivers
  • Zero alcohol tolerance (0.0 promille)
  • If serious offense: Extended probation + seminar

Costs

Typical costs for Class B license:
